Sometimes I wonder if the meetups are nothing more than the Monty Python sketch where stuffed shirts talk about putting things on top of other things and the real progress is achieved away from the tables and pommel-horses.
In the end, what are we accomplishing?
Oh well. It was a good test of Voice, even if not everyone could hear until it was nearly over. Yay stability!
My notes say:
- Simple kiosks to allow podcasters to easily promote their own podcasts or podcasting directory of participants.
- Piggyback on to existing podcasts for ventures you're already associated with.
- "As heard on..." signs for podcasts that feature vendors or locations.
- Are podcasts too long or too short? When do you listen to them, online or offline?
- SLPN Video podcast will include the otherwise Youtubed material.
- Do people really watch video podcasts or do they just listen to the audio stream.
Critical point, here. If I'm not mistaken, with regards to the recent Metaverse U conferences Prokofy Neva had a post about providing as many options for people to follow a discussion, letting folks tap in via in-world, the raw video feed, the raw audio feed, etc. Let people choose the level of immersion or service or bandwidth-hogging they want.
I, for one, will watch the Torley tutorials, but I will only listen to the audio portion of the SLCN.tv offerings because beyond the audio track it's just static puppets and some three-camera button-pushing at a virtual control room to eat up space on my iPod.
- We all miss "Second Rant."
- What is it that causes a podcast to succeed and grow and what causes it to podfade?
Also, the usual observation that the meetups on Mondays conflict with the Open Mike at Los Arboles. (Side discussion on calendars, blah blah blah it'll never resolve, just give up, Crap, and learn to be still. I'd give anything to silence / all those voices in my head.)
I'm wondering when Lagtime Live will fire up. Music is big in SL, and I'd think a music interview podcast would work. I pondered doing this myself and turning my notes into a column for SLNN, but there's this thing called not enough damn time in the day.
Oh well. Shutting up and playing my kazoo.
On to the roundup, kiddies.
The secret is out... it's Anji Bee rounding up 16 music podcasters and puts together a show to comfort a student jarred by the NIU shootings.
Mikeypod meets Anji! Yay! (Are 10 packs of M&Ms still vegetarian?)
Daphne and Tamara talk to Callie Cline, who's boots look way better on Cee than Starr Sonic.
As for Starr Sonic's hair, we've agreed to try to work things out after a mutually-agreed upon period of separation. Not that I would put Starr's hair on speed-dial and want to call it 40 times a day...I'M NOT MISSING YOU AT ALL! NO! NEVER!
Bedtime Stories My Kids Love releases the fourth chapter in the Adventures of the Man In The Can.
Rumor is that a tawdry scene with a can opener was edited out for the children's sake.
Yehoodi has another dance discussion - Lindy Hop?
I'm so unhip.
Pizzababe delivers once again.
An example of the disaspora/wide spread of the podcasting community. Not everybody is concentrated on the Five Islands or Podcast Island or SoHo. And that's a good thing, because it gets people out and noticed... it's kind of what I was hoping for in Collins with the storefront before it turned into a ghost town.Maybe I need to find a popular mall or two, make a silly little workshop in Caledon, grab some space, and throw out some podcast material?
Media Driving talks about "viral" videos... Jay kinda hates that term, you know.
More every day from SLCN.TV, 100 Word Stories, The Latest at Second Life, M is for Myg's Music.
Don't forget about the SL Podcasting Network and my directory for all your SL podcasting listening needs.
Or, if you're a lazy-ass, just keep coming back here for my useless roundups.
I build this entry over the course of the day, Daphne, so IM me or add a comment pointing out any that I've overlooked.

Comments (6)
None of my shows are overlooked... Stylecast should be out tonight.... ummm.. I hope... Would help if we recorded something last night... or had a topic...
On the other hand: Did you know Going Broke and Stylecast are both mentioned in the Second Edition of The Official Guide to Second Life? We are a valuable resource!

"Jay kinda hates that term, you know."
Ya it's true. But no one has given me a better one yet...
Thanks for the link-love Crap!

not sure how to respond to that.. since i stepped in and tried to find something to talk about when we figured out we screwed up cali's dates, i'll have to assume that's aimed at me.
i certainly could be labeled guilty of not accomplishing anything, but i'm not much of a fan of stuffed shirts myself.
at least i didn't do most of the talking ;)

Yes, you're right, I do advocate having all those things, various versions of having room chat, group chat, voice, stream, handing out the URL, video, etc. etc.
Re: "What is it that causes a podcast to succeed and grow and what causes it to podfade?"
I'm not sure what "podfade" means. Is that like a Grateful Dead song by aging hippies?
My podcast didn't fade, it was shut in the basement of Lubyanka very early one morning by Nick Wilson for not being politically correct and making uncensored comments about a big corporation, the Sheep.
I would be happy to start it up again but for that, I need one of those snarky tekkies like Nick Wilson to be the anchor.

Well, I have no fear of Sheep or Crayon or Zebra or any animal/art supply.
I don't exactly have my fingers on the pulse of the core issues of LL/SL, but I can try to help in a search for a podcaster that can handle the recording and hosting duties if you'd like.
