SL Podcast Roundup

Second Rant is out, and I find it strange that even SL personalities fail to acknowledge the robust and growing independent music industry within Second LifeŽ when Mainstream Media critics attack SL in such narrow terms.

My comment:

First Wired, now Forbes.

Why did these MSM outlets avoid the one sector of the SL Economy that's not just robust, but growing and thriving: Independent Music?

Just read a TIME article... they focus on the scandals and the sex and gambling and nothing about the music.

It would be like pointing at AOL-Time Warner and focusing only on their Pathfinder portal failure, or pointing at Disney's GO.com.

As for the "Everyone in SL is a Loser" I wonder if he'd be so brave as to go from door to door telling people that?

Who first... who first... let's see him try that on someone like Circe Broome, who's done a hell of a lot in SL for a hell of a lot of people.

Sweeping generalities from so-called journalists who should know better.

Pathetic.

Radar and Will twittered back and forth a bit last night on SLUTR being "Behind The Scenes: SL Woodstock."

(I'll say more about that under the fold.)

Anybody else out there with updates? Let me know.

Okay, thoughts on SL Woodstock in case Radar follows through on his threat...

I'll just say now that my deepest regret is Dedric and Korii's Woodbridge not being involved in this. I was wondering why they hadn't been involved, and then last night it all came back to me with a Skype conversation and a phone call.

This is entirely my fault, and I feel absolutely miserable over it because I had made a promise to myself that I'd do my damndest not to chelpixie anybody on project.

The worst part of this is that, in my opinion, Dedric got screwed in the Virtual Hot Wings kiosk project. I told Chel to talk to him as early as possible, she waited until last minute, and then didn't bother thanking either of us when the "press release" was posted.

Even after the "press release" was corrected (at my insistence... what does it say of people who need to be told to thank someone?), they went on a few podcasts and it was all me-me-me-me with them.

Revolting. And I did not want to ever be as revolting as that.

Look, this is how I want to operate:

If somebody needs contacting, I contact them.
If somebody wants to talk, I talk and I leave open as many channels of communication as possible.
If something needs doing, I do it.
If somebody needs thanking, I thank them.

I set high goals for myself, and I want to meet those goals, and I appreciate any assistance in attaining them.

Problem is, even as a windup midget butler, there's still a human behind that little bastard, and with the Nowhereville and other projects on the table, I've been making some big mistakes left and right.

Once the music is over and everything's settled down, I'll take a moment to breathe, focus, and get back into the swing of things.

Yeah, I have other regrets, but I think I'd rather work those out privately than air out dirty laundry and make matters worse.

We can work it out, you know.

Yes, chelpixie is a word in my lexicon.

It means a lot of things:

  • Using somebody else for personal gain.
  • Waiting for the last minute to start a project.
  • Sucking up to others and then abandoning them in their time of need.
  • Talking big, delivering little (or nothing).
  • Not paying your bills until it's convenient for you.
  • Spreading lies to drive wedges between others.

It used to mean something else. It used to mean "a friend" or "someone you could trust" or "someone who believes in you."

What a difference a few months makes, eh?

Hmmm.... well, I had more in mind of finding out the whole genesis of this event. I know that Will wanted a rezday party, and my understanding is that QDNow was gonna pay for it, but I wasn't clear on how it became SL Woodstock across multiple sims. I thought that might be interested.

Also was curious as to the experience of doing something this huge on Edloe which hasn't done this kind of event before. It should make for interesting listening, as I'm sure there's huge logistical and personnel nightmares that don't even become apparent until too late.

Sounds like it's stressful and that's too bad - I hope everyone makes it through unruffled and having fun. I'm going to try to be there and maybe bring a gift for Will, but I'm sure i'll have to fight through the hippie chicks to get to him!
