What Is This Crap? will continue...

Ah, the Tweeters are tweeting...

I was somewhat concerned at the news that LL was going to stop gambling in SL. Not just because some friends enjoy some friendly wagering over the poker table and some neighbors use it for a bit of additional revenue, but the fact that What Is This Crap has prizes for winners.

Are games of skill and knowledge affected by this?

From the official policy on wagering and gambling:

5. Does this policy apply to "skill contests?"

This policy only applies to wagering games that meet the criteria listed above. If your game or contest does not meet the above criteria, it is not restricted under this policy, but applicable laws and local practice may impose additional requirements on you. This policy does not give you guidance on what your legal obligations are - as noted above, that is your responsibility to determine.

Okay. Makes sense to me.

What Is The Crap? is a knowledge-based game where the contestants are competing for prizes without any entry fee or random factor completely out of their control.

Therefore, What Is This Crap? is safe.

More reactions: Dedric, Kate Amdahl, Reuters, Vint Falken, SLI's Pixeleen Mistral.

Listening to Prokovy on Metaversed on the subject of gambling, the LindeX and the concierge mailing list buzzing. (Did I not get signed up for this, or was there a signup process I overlooked?)

If casinos are selling their sims and big business is flipping sims because they can't scale their marketing efforts, is there going to be a land price crash and a fire sale for islands?

If this is the case, maybe Nardo (combat), Piper (theme), and Edloe 2/Canelo (co-owner residential) projects can be accelerated.

Following up on that, Ed Radio:

It remains to be seen how the initial removal of gambling from Second LifeŽ will be taken by the community. I wouldn't be suprised to have some sort of mass exodus from at least those that ran these casinos. I can already hear the virual screams complaining about the notion that gambling is bad, which will make even more people irate. As was pointed out during Coffee With Crayon this morning, there will probably be a TON of inexpensive land out there for the land sharks to snatch up. The exchange rate for Lindens will probably change quite a bit. News reports will have yet another expose' topic to do about Second LifeŽ.

Has the firesale begun?

I am operating under the assumption that any and all individuals interested in residency in Edloe or a second Edloe sim will be reading this site.

If so, they should contact me at their earliest opportunity to confirm their interest in Edloe 2 so I can start refining my co-owner compatibility matrix.
