25 Groups

Every so often, someone invites me to a group. I can't join it, though, because I'm already maxed out at 25 groups.

I guess I should look at my groups and justify why I have each of them. That way, I can find any duplicates or overlap that can be trimmed...

**Podstar**: TheDiva Rockin's group. Party announcements, with some cross-posts from other groups I don't have room for.

Bucket Brigade: Madison Carnot/Corey Akula's group for Nowhereville announcements and Bucket podcast information. They're my neighbors, so that's one more reason to keep tabs on things there that I'd like to attend.

Church of Elvis: Elvis Faust's group for updates for this amusing and unusual comic tour-de-force every Sunday at Noon SLT. Elvis is extremely creative, quick on his feet with improv reactions to the flock, and attracts an amusing crowd of the strangest people in SL.

Circe's Circles of Sound: When you think music in SL, you think Circe Broome and her Laurel sim. She fires off the updates for her stable of artists and venues so you never have to miss a single top-notch performer. I may drop this one, however, because I'm really not interested in evening and weekend deejay gigs, and she's usually very good about crossposting to LME.

Club Cocomo Members: Not only is Jack Pitts a neighbor, but he's also got a cool venue down there on Pitt Island called Club Cocomo. He'll bring in a live act now and then, but when I'm on the patio reading, well, sometimes I fire up SL and sit the little midget butler in a seat so I can have some good tunes flying around the air.

Dirty Pirate Whores: One of (Suzen) JueL Resistance's fan clubs/notice groups. Cee likes to wear the Dirty Pirate whore tag over her head while wearing a pirate outfit at her gigs.

Edloe Island: I kinda need this one because we've deeded the island to it, eh. It's also useful as a reflector for island residents to use for getting the word out. If they started doing that more often, I could save a few groups from my group budget. (No, I do not use this for announcing 100WS podcasts because there's one every damn day, eh)

Friends of Podcast Pickle: Useful for news and events at Podcast Island and Podcaster Island.

G & Ri: Gomem DeSoto and Ri An use this group for announcing Gomem's gigs on Edloe island as well as other things they come across.

Going Broke with Daphne and Tamara: For following the podcast that Daphne Abernathy and Tamara Kirshner do about fashion. Every so often, I'm called upon to provide goofy bits and pieces for the podcast. You know, because everybody needs a victim. I may need to drop this one, since I subscribe to their podcast, but if they sent out Landmarks of sales and such I'd certainly need to follow it for Cee's sake.

JLO - Jewish Land Owners Group: Emergency announcement list for anti-semitic incidents within Second LifeŽ. Useful for passing the word about some of the wretched scum which the Lindens seem reluctant to scrape from the userbase or keep from infecting it time and time again.

Live Music Enthusiasts: If you follow music in SL, this is a must-have. Sure, you'll get duplicates from any musician fan group you're a member of, but this will also save you the need for having memberships to each and every one of them.

Living Room VIP Lounge: One of (Suzen) JueL Resistance's fan clubs/notice groups. Useful for getting into the sim should it be packed, and sometimes Suzen forgets to announce on DPW, despite it being a cooler-named group.

Louis Volare fan club: When I need to Unwind, this is the group to follow. Louis Volare/Landon is the antistresser of the grid, his piano stylings will cure any affliction bringing you down. He's got one for the SkyPalace, but I've never managed to get in there when a crowd's hit it, so I figure I'll just be content to catch him when he's out in the wild.

Mauriac Propositions: Dedric Mauriac is our neighbor to the east, and this is necessary for rezzing objects on the sim in case they're needed, such as testing multisim venue experiments.

Paisley Beebe's Fan Club: Paisley Beebe is The Jazz Bird as well as star of a Sunday evening chatshow. She has another group for the show, but crossposts here, so there's not much point to having more than just this show. Saves me the trouble of having SLCN.tv, unless they feel like signing me on for some goofball show or something.

Podcasting Network: Spin Martin handed me posting rights to this group for getting the word out about Podcast Meetups. There haven't been many other announcements over this group, so it's kind of superfluous. We'll see if I keep it or not.

Second LifeŽ Bloggers: Zoe Connolly and several other SL bloggers comprise of this group. SL IFOC isn't exactly "in" crowd as of yet, but I figure y'all are having a good time of reading it, right? This one is relatively new for me. I'll see what comes of it.

Second LifeŽ Synagogue: Beth Odets and other Javatars post announcements here for Synagogue happenings, violin recitals in The Ark, and other happenings.

Shriners of Second LifeŽ: Elvis Faust is working on something for this group. We'll see if it isn't just a reflector for Church of Elvis.

The Black Tie Martini Club: Caleb Bullen of the Black Tie Martini Club combines comedy and swanky Frankie-era tunes for a unique dance club experience at... well, the Black Tie Martini Club at Piper Point on Edloe island. The gigs really ought to be duplicated to Edloe Island group for announcements, which means I could lose this one if push comes to shove.

The Cylindrian's Fan Club: Cylindrian Rutabaga/Grace Buford. Total fan. If I miss a gig, I feel like I haven't breathed for that day. And you know how important breathing is, right? However, she's usually pretty good about posting to LME, so if push comes to shove, this one would probably be the last of the musician-related group memberships to go.

The Podmafia: Stuart Warf of the Ten Cast runs this group, and he's ramping things up for announcements of gigs at his parcel on Nowhereville as well as Gomem's to-be-revealed improved dance hall.

Things To Do: 57 Miles/Nick Wilson offers up an interesting place to visit in Second LifeŽ every day. Even though I follow metaversed.com like a hawk, I still need reminding.

Woodstock Second LifeŽ: Yep. Announcements and flags for SL Woodstock.

So, what groups would I join if I could be in more than 25 groups?

Zionists of Second LifeŽ and Jews of Second LifeŽ are two. With the increasing anti-semitic presence in SL, it's important to show solidarity and to demonstrate to the Lindens that there's a strong Jewish presence in SL. Besides, if we control the media, banks, weather, and everything else like our detractors claim, well, might as well extend the network into SL, right?

I'd also add back my Rich Palmer Reason2Play group, but Rich is great about crossposting gigs to LME, so I can follow him there as well as... um, Rich? Do you have a Google calendar?

You know, more artists and venues ought to have Google Calendars, now that I think of it. Would certainly reduce the need for watching groups and the Search - Events like a hawk, right?

where would I find out about anti-semitism in SL?
